The r, s, q view

Divide the three coefficients by their sum and they become one point in this triangle. Each corner is one term on its own: a set of straight channels along one axis. The standard gyroid is the point in the middle, where the three terms weigh the same.

  • r = c₂ / mean(c₁, c₃) is the height of the point: the weight of c₂ against the other two.
  • q = c₁ / c₃ is its left–right position: how the rest is split between c₁ and c₃.
  • s = c₁ + c₂ + c₃ is not on the map. It scales F as a whole, and F = t is the same surface as F / s = t / s. The shape depends on s only through t / s; at t = 0 it does not depend on s at all.

Drag the point to move r and q together. The shaded area is the range of the r and q sliders.
